KINDLING Study

  • 400 digital signal processors
  • Three-year development
  • First generation
  • Multiple systems
  • OBJECTIVE
    • Apply RASSP process to NSA classified systems
      • Compare traditional versus RASSP processes
      • Apply emerging DSP technology to upgrade fielded signal processing systems consisting of between 24 and 600 DSPs
      • Demonstrate reduced development risk, time, and cost using RASSP
      • Provide RASSP environment subset for use of NSA projects
    RASSP TECHNOLOGY TRANSITION
    • Development environment beta site
    • Requirements capture using RDD-100
    • Functional/algorithmic modeling using MATLAB, SPW,and GEDAE
    • Development of performance models using VHDL
    • Autocoding to target hardware
    STUDY RESULTS
    • Requirements captured in RDD-100
    • Performance modeling techniques using VHDL demonstrated significant utility; new PMW tool with built-in libraries will assist model generation and less reliance on experts
    • Developed complete functional model of KINDLING using GEDAE
      • Added non-deterministic dataflow capability to GEDAE
      • Needs coupling to command program to support control of graph start, stop and retasking; available 4Q97
      • Unable to evaluate autocode capablity on Mercury SHARC due to Mercury SHARC board port problems and supporting primitive libraries
