Network Capabilities

TECHNICAL OBJECTIVE
  • Exploit current and emerging Internet technologies to improve productivity for distributed development teams

BENEFITS

  • Improved information availability using WWW services
  • Collaboration improves effectiveness of engineer to engineer interactions
  • Secure access mechanisms and encryption provide privacy using Internet; much lower cost and more flexible than dedicated lines
MILESTONES
7/95 Demonstration of web server access at Second Annual RASSP Conference
2/96 Secure access mechanism implemented at ATL and Ocala; MI tools integrated with WWW
Web-based file transfer mechanism implemented
5/96 Manufacturing Interface (MI) integrated with RASSP workflow manager
12/96 Multiple RASSP web sites linked together as a virtual enterprise
6/97 Distributed enterprise web-based toolkit released with DMM, DM2 interfaces
APPROACH
  • Utilize commercial secure WWW tools as basis for shared access to RASSP documents
    • Implement servers at ATL, SCRA, and Ocala
    • Remote tool access
  • Support manufacturing interface
    • RFQ process; release process
  • Evaluate/select collaboration tools
    • Shared whiteboard; audio/video; text/graphics
  • Distributed enterprise tools
    • Integrate secure mechanisms with DMM/DM2
    • Implement mechanisms to support pay per access
